How the island sank
Hello dear Olokians,
You have all found your new home on the turtle Oloko. Here you have a relaxed life with your friends, have your own house with a large garden and can grow great products and process them in jobs.
But that wasnt always the case. In this peaceful life, it is easy to forget that the life of the Olokans is overshadowed by an eventful past: the island on which the Olokans previously lived sank from one day to the next and the inhabitants lost everything they ever had had built. Every Olokians should know his past well. Thats why the Wise Tree tells you what exactly happened back then. Listen carefully!
This is a very sad and long story. Like many other tragic events, the islands sinking was caused by a little carelessness. In this case it was little Dalia who was almost bursting with curiosity. She really wanted to know if the fish that lived inside the mountain was really as dangerous and scary as all the animals claimed. So she came up with a plan: She wanted to climb the mountain and meet the fish face to face. That was, of course, a huge challenge for such a small turtle like Dalia. And believe me, anyone who had known about her plan would have advised against it or even forbidden it. But Dalia was clever. She hadn’t told anyone about her plan. One day in August, at the break of dawn, Dalia carefully snuck out of her house to make sure no one noticed her. After an almost two-hour trek through misty swamp lands and deserted valleys, she finally stood before the mighty, towering, fog-covered mountain where the fish lived:
Dalia’s eyes widened in amazement. “The mountain is this tall?” she said to herself, swallowing so loudly that the sound startled even her. Should I really dare? But for Dalia, there was no turning back. She had to climb the dangerous mountain to prove to herself and the other animals in her village that she wasn’t so easily intimidated. So, she bravely stepped forward. Since the mountain was so steep, Dalia walked around it in circles, following the grassy meadows dotted with daisies. As you may know, the ravenous fish inside the mountain feeds exclusively on daisy roots. That’s why Dalia had been warned never to pick a daisy, as doing so would open a hole leading directly to the fish. But Dalia was bursting with curiosity. She simply had to find out if all of this was true. When she was almost at the summit, she stopped and picked a daisy. And sure enough! The daisy had no roots! This meant the ravenous fish had already eaten them. Where the daisy once stood, there was now a tiny hole. Dalia could hardly contain herself. Boldly and excitedly, she peered through the hole—and found herself staring directly into the eye of the great fish. She was utterly terrified and tried to put the daisy back in place immediately. But before she could plug the hole, a fountain of water shot into her face. The fountain grew larger and larger, just like the hole. The little turtle scrambled up a tree to save herself. The next moment, the terrifying face and sharp teeth of the fish came rushing toward her…
The hole grew larger and larger, and the water pressure kept building. Eventually, the pressure became so intense that the fish shot out of the hole like a cannonball—heading straight for little Dalia. The fish opened its hungry mouth wide and swallowed the tree, along with tiny Dalia, in one gulp.
Once the hole in the mountain was exposed, water from inside gushed out like volcanic lava, spreading across the island. The entire island became increasingly submerged under the rising waters until, in the end, only the mountains peak remained visible. All the islands inhabitants were forced out of their homes and left swimming helplessly in the water.
Within a single day, they had lost everything they had built and ever owned: their homes, their gardens, their homeland—everything was swallowed by the water. What happened next, as I’ve already shared with you in the video on the homepage: Oloko immediately called upon the sea goddess Oktada, who calmed the waters with a magical potion. But it was too late. The island had already sunk completely. In response, Oktada cast a spell that transformed Oloko’s great shell into fertile soil. This allowed all the animals of Oloko to rebuild their homes and start new lives. The story had a happy ending for the former island inhabitants.
The great mystery, however, remains the fate of the little turtle Dalia. No one knows what happened to her or if she ever managed to escape from the fish. Oloko firmly believes that Dalia is still alive. Her mission is to continue crossing the ocean until she finds the little turtle.
